A UI design case study on Disney+
Disney+ is an American subscription video streaming service owned by Walt Disney. It includes a mix of content from Disney's vault and new programs developed exclusively for members. Having subscribed to other streaming platforms prior to Disney+, there were a few functions that I did not like. As such, when tasked to identify problems and user needs for an interface, I decided to conduct my research on Disney+.
The Problem:
After conducting competitor research, user interviews, and usability tests amongst Disney+ users, there were 4 common problems observed:
1. Lack of personalisation on the homepage
2. Difficulty for users to find shows to watch
3. Poor Media Player
4. Absence of a platform for users to provide feedback
With this in mind, a high-fidelity prototype was made through Figma to cater to the issues faced. The proposed interface features a customisable homepage layout, allowing the homepage to be more personalised. It also includes an improved media player and a refined search function. An addition, a review/comment segment was also added to allow users to provide users feedback on the respective show. Lastly, a community playlist was incorporated to make the show-finding process easier. This allows users to see their friends' activity in real-time and the playlists that they've recently added!
Here's a short demo of the proposed interface!
